Book Name – You Never Know91xhh1pwDeL

Author – Akash Verma

Cover – The cover of this book is very captivative. It shows a person walking alone in the woods and another person’s face in the left side of the cover. It at once catches the attention of the readers. The red colour associates with blood , mystery and hell. The woods entwined with the hair of a woman creates a sense of mental trauma and mystery related with a woman.

Title – The title is very attractive. Just after reading the title You Never Know , the very first question that came to mind was ” What is it the author is trying to say?” Then the subtitle answered he question – “Sometimes love can drag you through hell”. This line goes very well with the cover of the book which is suggestive of hell.

Blurb – The blurb portion has been written well and edited too. It is enough to guess about the story. It is short but enough to make readers understand. After reading the blurb portion one can’t wait a minute to start reading the book. Same thing happened to me.

Storyline – The story revolves around Dhruv who is married to Shalini and is father of two children but falls in love with his colleague Anuradha. Then there is sub-plots and other characters. I will not go into the details of the plot for that will kill the interest of the readers. The story begins with Dhruv telling his story then the incidents are described through the narrative of Dhruv , Anuradha and Sid, her previous lover who committed suicide (or murdered?). Though it may seem that the story is only about illicit affairs ,actually it’s not. There is something more than just an extra marital affair. The author has crafted the plot-line in such a way that it engages the reader from the very beginning.

Characterisation –  The author has portrayed the characters beautifully. He has focused on the psychology of all the characters and this is done beautifully by the narrative technique. It  is like the characters are telling the story from their own perspectives  which makes the story more intriguing.

Narration – The content has been narrated well. Author has done a great job by narrating this story. He has used simple beautiful language so that one can understand the meaning of each word. Actually he has tried to make all readers understand the motive of writing this novel. This book has been edited well. I haven’t found any error though.

In a nutshell , this is the first book of the author that I read and its really very impressive. Dealing with a theme which may seem common to many Akash Verma has done a great job in making the story unique and engaging. It is a thriller in its own kind.
